We took a trip 45 minutes North to visit the Lyngdorf barn (hi-fi and cinema in barns is gaining in popularity – we’ve been at our barn for almost 10 years now!). We were invited to attend the RoomPerfect training event, to give us a greater understanding of the theory and complexity of the calculations behind Lyngdorf’s class leading room calibration system. We’ve used RoomPerfect many times on Cinema projects and HiFi installations for our customers, but prior to the training our knowledge of the system, which Lyngdorf have now been using and improving for 19 years, was purely from an operational perspective, which made for an extremely interesting training event.
Lyngdorf take a different approach to their room calibration to many other manufacturers, in that their extremely clever software requires you to position the microphone in completely random positions in the room. You firstly position the microphone in the ‘Focus’ position, which is the main listening position, but then you position it around the room in random locations, rather than pre-determined positions. By taking readings this way, the Lyngdorf RoomPerfect software is basically understanding the whole listening environment, rather than just trying to calibrate the sound for various seating positions. It took a lot of effort and knowhow to design the software to be this intelligent, but once you hear RoomPerfect in action, you certainly know they have got it 100% right.
We took some photographs on the day, for you to see the Lyngdorf barn’s kit.
