The importance of sound

As any Hollywood film Director would say, the soundtrack and sound effects are an integral part of the movie experience. The soundtrack can create tension, anticipation, and with action movies in particular, has the ability to make you jump out of your skin!

Services we offer

Many of our clients are looking to incorporate Television and Movie Streaming into their existing Hi-Fi systems. With the addition of an AV processor – the opportunity of adding multi-channel audio (centre channel and subwoofers for example) becomes available, opening up whole new immersive experience for relatively modest investment.

This can be incredibly rewarding, as a ‘flat’ TV experience is transported into an exciting home movie experience.
We can design and build bespoke ‘Media Walls’ though our in-house joinery supply chain to keep all the cables and speakers out of sight. See examples below in our portfolio.

Fully bespoke design and project management

For some of our clients, the aim is to recreate a traditional Multi-Plex Cinema experience within their own home. This can be done either as a multi-purpose 'snug' or even a basement or garage conversion becoming a dedicated Home Cinema.

We can liaise with architects, interior designers and builders to sympathetically design and deliver your dream home cinema. In our portfolio below, see examples of how we have helped transformed client's home entertainment beyond even their wildest expectations.

Cinema Lighting

Lighting control explained

Traditional lighting controls, such as individual switches and dimmers, can be cumbersome, especially in larger homes. A lighting control system streamlines this by allowing you to manage all your home’s lighting from a single keypad or device.

Key Benefits:

  • Convenience: Easily adjust lighting scenes for various activities—be it reading, watching a movie, or entertaining—at the touch of a button.

  • Energy Efficiency: Automated controls ensure lights are used only when needed, reducing energy consumption and lowering electricity bills.

  • Enhanced Security: Integrate with home security systems to simulate occupancy when you’re away, deterring potential intruders.

  • Elegance: Replace multiple switches with a single, sleek keypad, maintaining your home’s aesthetic while providing full functionality.

By adopting a lighting control system, you simplify daily routines, enhance comfort, and contribute to energy savings.

Frequently asked questions

It can seem overwhelming trying to understand the latest Home Cinema and Smart Home jargon. Here we answer some of the most common questions we receive.

Or contact us below and we shall get you started on your project.

Contact us
  • Where do I start?

By simply filling out our Enquiry Form, we can start developing your project costs for you, giving you a cost range to choose from. Once we have established your budget for the project, we then move on to the exciting design stage.

  • What kit do I need?

This is where our extensive experience becomes essential to your project. We will specify every single piece of kit for you, so no need to worry about making technical decisions – unless you want to that is!

  • What do I need to spend?

As a starting point, with a budget of £5,000 we can specify you a very entertaining system for your living room – as you would imagine, with a budget of £20,000 / £40,000 / £60,000 / £100,000+ the performance and enjoyment from your cinema system will  grow and become more and more breath-taking.

  • Is my room big enough?

YES – we have a large range of equipment available, we can specify a system for anything from a converted garage to a lounge to a full 30 seat dedicated cinema room.

  • How many speakers do I need?

To achieve a Dolby specification, a minimum of 5 speakers and a subwoofer are required, this is known as a 5.1 system. As the room size for the system increases, so does the number of speakers and subwoofers – there is also significant performance uplift in additional speakers being added, to give further immersion into the movie / TV / video game. We will always make a recommendation for the number of speakers for your system.

  • Do I need Dolby Atmos?

Not necessarily, but Dolby Atmos is the latest surround sound format – the ‘Atmos’ speakers are mounted in ceiling and create greater immersion into the soundtrack. A properly designed an installed 5.1 setup can be quite exceptional in it’s own right.

  • Do I need to see the speakers?

Only if you want to see them! We can design a system based around traditional freestanding speakers, in-wall / in-ceiling speakers with discrete metal grilles or fully concealed speakers that are hidden behind high end stretched fabric wall panelling and the projection screen itself – a fully concealed speaker system adds to the in-room cinema experience and also is a great option for multi-use room, where it’s not a dedicated cinema space.

  • Do I need a blacked-out room?

Projectors nowadays perform very well in ambient lit rooms and we also have projectors that are purposely designed to work in a ‘normally lit’ environment. For a full-on cinema experience, you are most likely going to want to enjoy it in a darkened room, which we can easily achieve for you with motorised black-out blinds.

  • Is a projector better than a TV? Can you have both?

For the ultimate cinematic experience, we would always recommend a projector – the experience of watching a movie / watching TV / playing video games on a projector is quite simply amazing. Typically our clients that have their cinema system in their Living Room, also have a TV and the projection screen is hidden in the ceiling and drops down for movie night!

  • Can I use my living room?

YES – around 50% of our projects are in the Client’s Living Room. A drop down projection screen and discrete in-wall / in-ceiling speakers give you the option on transforming your Living Room into a Cinema Room at the touch of a button.

  • Is my room suitable?

YES – The key is designing the cinema system to suit the room and it’s day to day use, to give our Clients exactly what they need. As part of our design workshops with the Clients, we discuss ways to achieve their bespoke solution.

  • Do I need to get a builder in?

There’s no need for a Client to get a builder for projects unless they are looking to remodel the home.

  • Our building works have already started – is it too late to consider a cinema?

NO – we are brought into projects at various different stages. Our detailed design is based around incorporating into your project at whichever stage it is at.

  • I am already working with my builder / interior designer, do you liaise with them?

On projects with a builder / Interior Designer already on-board, we work closely with the project team to ensure that the cinema system installation is fully co-ordinated with other works and the design of the house.

  • Do you do Cinema lighting?

YES – we can install fully controlled lighting or create an interface if there is an existing lighting system. Lighting control can be incorporated in our Control4 system, so that one tap on the touchscreen controller can turn the lighting down, turn on the cinema equipment and shut the blinds.

  • I already have speakers, can they be used as part of a new system?

YES – we can design your system so that incorporates your existing speakers.

  • Can I have seating like they have in cinemas?

YES – we can install full powered reclining cinema seating for you

  • My room has a lot of windows/glass, will this sound ok?

With room calibration, we are able to make adjustments to system to overcome any challenges such as a lot of windows

  • Can someone visit to give me some ideas?

YES –  In fact an in-home design workshop chat is often the best way to start imagining what is possible in your home.  Please complete the Enquiry Form below and we will be in touch.

  • I have plans for a refurbishment, will these help?

Design drawings that you may have for your home will always be very helpful, especially for the early design workshop.

  • Do you provide wiring diagrams and designs?

As part of our design process, we will provide full wiring diagrams and designs, which are always very helpful if there is a builder also working on the home.

  • Can the Cinema integrate with other systems like multi-room audio?

On the large majority of projects, we install multi-room audio systems in the house at the same time, with the cinema system integrated into the multi-room audio.

  • Is a projector a good idea for watching TV and playing video games?

YES – our customers generally spend as much time using their cinema system for watching Netflix as they do for watching movies and the gamers love playing their PS5’s on a giant screen with surround sound!
